Protection of Personal Information Act

The President of South Africa proclaimed the commencement date of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 to be 1 July 2020. A grace period of one year was granted for all parties who process personal information to comply with the Act. This means that the effective date for compliance is 1 July 2021.
 
The POPI Act will change the way businesses deal with information and data in an information-driven economy and society. An understanding of this Act will benefit all individuals, organisations and businesses.
